From E-Waste to Innovation: My Power Bank Journey
What if discarded electronics could be turned into something useful again? That question led me to design and build a power bank entirely from recalled components—learning, innovating, and pushing my boundaries along the way.
I've always been drawn to the world of Electrical, Electronics, and Embedded Systems. It’s more than just a field for me—it’s a passion, a hobby, and a constant pursuit of knowledge.
This journey started when I salvaged an old laptop battery pack from an e-waste dumpster. Yes, you heard it right! To me, an e-waste dumpster is a wonderland—an endless source of treasures and a hands-on classroom for understanding electronics. Not only does it provide reusable components, but it also offers opportunities to sharpen my repair skills and deepen my understanding of circuit design. There’s a unique satisfaction in bringing discarded electronics back to life!
This battery pack was no exception. Cracking it open, I discovered SONY-manufactured cells—precision engineering at its finest! A quick measurement revealed over 60% battery life remaining. Without hesitation, I embarked on a project to repurpose it into a functional power bank. To elevate the challenge, I designed a fast-charging, high-capacity discharge circuit.
Along the way, I unlocked another exciting skill: 3D modelling using CAD. Finally, my long-owned 3D printer found its true purpose—I designed and printed a custom casing for my creation.
The Result?
A fully functional self-made power bank with:
🔹 85W constant power output
🔹 60Wh battery capacity
🔹 Optimized power consumption for extended usage
This project reinforced my commitment to sustainability-driven engineering and the power of continuous learning—principles I strive to bring into professional spaces.
I’m excited to share this journey and connect with like-minded professionals passionate about innovation and sustainability. Let’s exchange ideas and push boundaries together!
